SOUTH EAST QUEENSLAND ARMOURERS ASSOCIATION
CALOUNDRA REUNION - 06 SEPTEMBER 2003

Firstly let me start by saying that for all those ex-Armourers who did not attend this year's function you missed one hell of a function.

I would like to send out special thanks all those ex-Armourers who attended the 2003 Reunion at Centrepoint Caloundra on 06 September 2003. Special note must go out to those who really put in a big effort to travel the long distances that they did to attend this year's function (of mention Billy Riley (Melbourne) and Jock Laurie (Perth)). In addition we had attendee's from Sydney, Newcastle, Rockhampton and Hervey Bay.

There was a jump-start to the anticipated pre dinner drinks start time of 1830 with a small crowd assembling at around 1700 and building to the final crowd of 108. At around 1905 I started the not so easy task of moving the throng into the designated buffet areas. This did cause some concern to the restaurant manager as we had people taking their seats at tables other than those that were designated for our group (Phil and myself finally settled him done). Once he realised the potential dollars coming his way all was fine. After half an hour Phil and myself finally started to attack the wonderful Seafood Buffet (BURP).

The night progressed well with all attendee's eating and drinking till talking over took eating and the tremendous crowd interaction commenced.

On behalf of all the attendee's I would like to send out a big YIP YAH to all the wives that attended this year's function as their presence truly contributed to the success of the night. It was also great to see the number of wives increase on the 2002 reunion numbers. I believe that the attendance of spouses is imperative to the longevity of these functions (particularly if they have a great time) by looking forward to the annual pilgrimage.

There has been some extremely positive talk about holding a function in Toowoomba and I would like to see this as a mid term function along the lines of a BBQ at a National Park Dam site or other suitable venues. (Your feedback please). This mid term function will not be organised close to other states Armourers reunions, as I believe that we Queenslanders need to get in and support the other groups.

Having said that the Newcastle reunion is due in 2004 around March April time frame (will keep you informed) and maybe we could organise a small bus to go down if we have the interest?????

In closing I would like to extend my thanks to Phil Ridley for all his hard work as the Secretary of our association. I would also like to further extend my thanks to Toothy Martin for negotiating to secure the venue (great spot).

Real big thanks must go to my wife Jan for all the hard yakka she put in reviewing and monitoring all the e-mails I received.
